The ‘ABC’ of Water Pollution

A

Algal BloomAlgae is a natural occurrence in both fresh and salt-water and the word describes all plant-like organism that exist in aquatic areas. An Algal Bloom is when these plants are multiplying at such a rate that they dominate the aquatic area around them.
Some Algae is more dangerous than others, but common to all of them is that when these plants die from overpopulation, they take up vast amount of oxygen. This means that the organism including fish can’t survive because of the lack of oxygen.

B

Water BacteriaBacteria are micro-organisms and some of them can be a source to water pollution. Under normal circumstances water can control the amount of bacteria that exists, and keep the hurtful bacteria to a minimum. But bacteria are often dumbed in waters either on purpose or by accidents. Sewage or livestock operation often contains bacteria that pollute the aquatic environment, and can in large quantities cause extreme damage to an aquatic area.

C

Chemical Waste in ChinaChemical waste is among the biggest causes of water pollution in the world. Chemical waste is defined as being left over from highly dangerous chemical products. This waste normally come from big industrial factories and can be expensive to get rid off. The expenses of disposing chemical in a nature friendly way can sometimes tempt factories to leak some of it into rivers and lakes. Other times accidents, or staged accidents, causes extreme leaks and can destroy whole rivers or lakes, and leave them uninhabitable for years.
